The Street worker’s mandate is to reach out to young people aged 12-25 who are not affiliated with other CDN Community organizations.
The street worker (Marc-Alain Félix) frequents the neighbourhood streets, as well as parks, around schools, in metro stations and community organizations. This constitutes the basis of his work as this is how he meets youth and to know what resources are available to them. As well, he listens to and offers counsel and can accompany them to available services. Marc-Alain also offers mediation between his target clientele.
The Côte-des-Neiges street workers interventions have aided many families in need, whether it be for lack of food, conflict resolution between youth and their parents, accompanying youth to important services or to simply listen and give counsel. Sometimes the worker is solicited to intervene in order to mediate issues such as families who are close to being evicted from their apartment, preventing fights, and to supervise community hours that youth need to do after committing a criminal offence.
