Terri Ste. Marie - Director

Terri graduated from Carleton University in 1989 with a bachelors degree in Psychology (Specialization in Criminology), and began work at Prevention CDN/NDG as a crime prevention animator two weeks later. Terri has been fortunate enough to move up the ranks from animator to assistant director, to director in 2004. The differences between running one program Tandem, to twelve programs is enormous, however she relishes the challenge. Work subjects close to her heart include women's safety, urban planning, safety audits.

Alain Mankarios - Assistant director  

Since March 2011, I took on the role of Prevention CDN/NDG's Assistant Director. Having worked for the Tandem CDN-NDG's crime prevention and urban security program since 2007, I've had the privilege to work and cooperate with many organisations as well as with exceptional leaders in our community. My new role does mean that I will have to take a small step back from front-line work and instead collaborate with our staff on program planning and evaluation, public consultations, and promoting our different services

Shlomo Elkeslassi - Graffiti removal coordinator

I am the coordinator of the graffiti removal, prevention and sensitization program for Prevention CDN/NDG. I have been involved with the program since its inception in 2006 first as a painter and now as the coordinator. Aside from coordinating the program and working very closely with Tandem, both local police stations, the staff at the Ville de Montreal and many politicians, I am also the person who every citizen speaks with before they get placed on the famous “list”. If anybody should ever become the victim of illegal graffiti hitting their walls in the borough of Cote des-Neiges-Notre Dame de Grace, all one would have to do is contact me, and we at Prevention CDN/NDG will do everything in our power to help clean and restore the wall to its original colour and finish.  

Julie Robillard - Hypersexualization Project Manager 

Julie has a BA in Communications and Political Science and a Masters in Politics from the University of Montreal. Her thesis focused on gender issues in sexuality. During her MA, she was a research assistant for a project with the theme of local social forums in Quebec and France. This experience led her to participate in the World Social Forum in Senegal in February 2011, where she led a workshop for collective reflection entitled "Women in Action". She also hosted a feminist radio show on CISM for nearly two years, and after her studies, she took a six-month internship program for the Development of Women's Entrepreneurship (WED) at the International (ILO), a UN agency based in Geneva, Switzerland. Since October 2012, she worked in the offices of Prevention CDN-NDG as Project Manager for the program Hypersexualization Table de concertation jeunesse de Côte-des-Neiges.

Joseph Lambert - Crime Prevention Counselor

  I was born in Fulford, Quebec, in the Eastern Towships. I spent many years working in summer camps such as Camp Anglo-fun (English immersion camp) as well as camp Nominigue, a canoe tripping camp in the Laurentiens. I mostly worked with ages 5-9. I also worked for the town of Brome Lake municipal day camp ( Salamander summer program ) . In addition, I worked as a nurses aid at Maison Knowlton house for the elderly. It's safe to say that I enjoy working with people of all ages, but here at Prevention CDN/NDG I have the youth dossier. Although I have my hands in almost all aspects of our work, my main role has been working with the primary schools both French and English. Talking to the kids about safety, violence prevention, conflict resolution, internet safety, violence in the media and graffiti, as well as safety information for day camp staff and children. I have worked here at Prevention CDN/NDG since February 2001. I am lucky that the youth of the community have come to know me as a friend and neighbour to them. I am also a resident of NDG, so all the work I do has an impact directly on me. It is why I have continued to do my very best to serve my neighbours.

Yasmina E.J. Denis  - Human Relations Specialist

*Maternity Leave April 2012-April 2013 As a graduating Concordia University student, with a bachelor`s degree in a Specialization in Human Relations, Yasmina recently got hired at Prevention CDN/NDG as a Crime Prevention Counsellor after several months of interning with the organization. Her dossier will mainly focus on adults: women, seniors, newly arrived immigrants, etc. Her academic specialties include leadership and team development, goal and program development and implementation, community and organizational development, etc. As a Human Relations Specialist, Yasmina recognizes the ongoing personal and professional learning and improvement one must make as a means to help individuals and teams “help themselves” in that same process. When she is not spreading awareness of the social issues and constraints that effect people’s daily lives and assisting them in improving their security and well being, she is also a wife and mother of two young children: knowing very well many of the challenges families in the community she serves face on a daily basis.

Brigitte Chrétien - Administrative Assistant 

I have been part of Team Prevention CDN/NDG since February 2, 2004. My role within the organization is multifaceted. I hold the title of administrative assistant; I am responsible for accounting tasks, secretarial and translation services. I also hold the title of Urban Security Advisor and where I run workshops on safety and violence prevention to children in primary schools as well as to groups of adults. I also participate in various committees, booths, events and activities of the organization.

Karl Thomas - Outreach Worker St-Luc School and Annexe

I am the outreach worker for St-Luc high school. As a youth I grew up in the cotes-des-neiges area, already at a young age I wanted to help kids that where less fortunate than me. I attended Felix- Leclerc in primary and went to F.A.C.E high school in downtown Montreal, then went to Athunsic for college and am currently pursuing my studies at Concordia University. My main role as an outreach worker is to work up close with at risk kids; I also refer different kids to the numerous resources in the NDG area. Working with teachers and students on different programs became part of my mandate also, (Les Médiateurs du Civism) is one example that I could give. I also take part of the comité des partenaires de St-Luc and the comité de prevention de St-Luc. As an outreach worker I have seen the difference that Prevention CDN NDG made for some of those youths.

Marc-Alain Félix - Streetworker CDN

Marc-Alain Félix has been working in the community for over 15 years. He began working as a sports instructor and camp counselor in the neighborhood of Park extension. Subsequently, he worked as a player and team leader in an organization in urban public housing in Ahuntsic. A few years later, still in Ahuntsic, he served as a coordinator in a rehabilitation project. This project was aimed at helping young people in difficulty, or at risk, who wanted to change their lives and regain control. During his journey, Marc-Alain has made a difference to many young people from different neighborhoods with different realities. It is these experiences that give him good analytical skills and an open mind. He is currently an outreach worker for the agency Prevention Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace, in the district of Côte-des-Neiges. Also responsible for the project "Host of Parks" which takes place every summer and the sports-activity Parkour. Marc-Alain says he is very proud to work for this district and is said to feel privileged to be part of this great team.

Fred Clark - Outreach Worker Mandela 

I am the outreach worker for the Cote-des-Neige district. As a youth I grew up in the CDN area, and knew even at a young age that I wanted to help other kids that were less fortunate then I was. Upon arriving in Canada, I attended Cote St. Luke secondary, then I went on to Woodland adult education were I finished my high school degree. For cegep, I went to Dawson College and Vanier College, and then relocated to NYC where I attended York College to finish my degree in computer science. My main role as an outreach worker is to work up close with kids, teens, and young adults at risk. I refer the youths to different resources provided by the community and city in the CDN area. I work alongside other organizations, schools, and students on different programs as a part of my mandate. Mandela Chalet and Ecole-des-Nation are examples of our affiliates. My main goal at Prevention CDN/NDG is to help the less fortunate and make a tangible and lasting difference in our community.

Mesay Girma - Outreach Worker NDG

I am the outreach worker for the district of NDG. I work for Table Jeuness NDG and Prevention CDN/NDG. I’ve worked in many community milieus of Cote-des-neiges and now Notre-dame- de grace. I work with youth between the ages of 13-30, but I also work with their parents and some younger or older clients depending on the case.  The areas of NDG that I cover are: Metro Snowdon and the surrounding areas, Metro Vendome and surrounding areas, parks such as: Girouard, Benny, Loyola, Royal Vale, Coronation and others in the NDG area. I also reach out to youth in high schools and community centers. My job consists of learning the resources offered by the district of NDG and refers youth or accompanies the youth to the resources they are looking for. I also am there to council these youth in any life difficulties that they face to the best of my abilities. Patrick René - Outreach Worker Outremont

Patrick René has worked in the community for nearly 10 years. His path traces back to the community center Côte-des-Neiges where he began as a day camp monitor. He quickly developed listening skills which allows him to easily win the trust and confidence of the youth he works with. As part of his work, Patrick's mandate is to support young people in their paths to achieve their long and short term goals.

Adina Badescu - Eco-Quartier NDG

Six and a half years ago, I came to the Eco-quartier when I was taking a French course at the Université de Montréal and I had to do a project on air quality in NDG.  I had come to the Eco-Quartier for more information and........ I stayed on as a project coordinator! Since then I have been responsible for ensuring recycling in apartment buildings, schools and other institutions as well as providing animations in schools & day cares centers in NDG. I love working with kids -- teaching them about the environment and how to protect the planet. I also coordinate special projects (such as flower planting, clean-ups, recycling, etc ) for problematic streets.

Ambrose Hamilton - Outreach Worker Montclair

I am the outreach worker for Montclair/fielding area and the teen coordinator at the Wakley Center. I grew up in St- Laurent and NDG and went to James Lyne adult education to receive my high-school diploma. I have been volunteering for 2 years as a day camp councilor at Wakley and working at the Wakley center 5 years as the teen coordinator. In response to the need in Montclair/Fielding I became the outreach worker in that area. Previously I worked as an outreach worker at St. Luc as well. After years of experience, I can say I have a lot respect in the community and provide a model for the teens and youth. I am responsible for counseling, mentoring, and helping out at risk teens by taking them out of their at risk areas, helping get them ready for the workplace through resume writing and much more. I am proud to work for the community because through helping others I help myself, and through that I can really make a difference in the community.

Marc Pagliarulo-Beauchemin - Coordonnateur Festival des arts urbains Hip Hop You Don't Stop Urban Arts Festival

I organize the Urban Arts Festival Hip Hop You Don't Stop, the seventh edition is this year. We collaborate with various community organizations that provide activities related to urban arts throughout the year, establishing this cultural event of large-scale sets forth the talent of the youth of the district. The festival acts as a crime prevention program through art for young people aged between 14 and 24 years from the Côte-des-Neiges and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in Montreal.

Eero Piilokivi - Crime Prevention Counselor

I graduated as a Recreation Animator in 1998 in Sweden and went on to work at a pair of Youth Community Centers before coming to Montreal in 2001. I joined the Tandem program in 2006 after already previously being acquainted with Prevention CDN/NDG in working as a street-worker in CDN. Right now I'm working as a crime prevention counselor at Tandem and my main tasks include property and overall security as well as the Nexus newsletter.

Daniel Ouellette - Outreach Worker - Seniors

Long involved in the community, whether as a volunteer or as a salaried employee, I've worked with clienteles as diverse as street youth, the homeless, and the mentally ill. My priority consists in advocating for, and defending, the rights of those whose voice is too often muted or silenced. Thanks to a provincial grant, Prevention CDN—NDG was able to create a new position, that of outreach worker for the elderly, position that I've been occupying since the spring of 2012. I work in partnership with local stakeholders who come into contact with the elderly in Côte-des-Neiges, as well as with the elderly themselves. My mandate consists in locating and identifying isolated and vulnerable seniors and in referring them to appropriate resources and organizations. To this end, I roam the streets, parks, and public places, as well as visit merchants, institutions, and other community groups. Under the City's Municipal Action Plan for the elderly, with its focus on security for seniors, and in the wake of the provincial government's strategy to prevent senior abuse, the improvement of the quality of life and of the environment of seniors now takes center stage. 

Nikki Schiebel - Éco-quartier NDG coordinator

I am passionate about the environment and want to help NDG residents to learn how they too can protect our natural resources. I oversee the Éco-quartier NDG in general. I plan and participate in the various activities offered at the Éco-quartier including kiosks, promoting recycling door to door, giving workshops on a variety of environmental themes, hosting the annual flower distribution, and perennial plant exchange, amongst a myriad of other environmental activities. I am responsible for supervising the Éco-quartier NDG staff, its interns, community service workers and volunteers. I meet regularly with the city and other community groups to ensure that the Éco-quartier responds to the needs of the borough. I am also responsible for writing our monthly and yearly reports.

William Roy - Éco-quartier NDG

I began working for the Eco-quartier program in the year 2000. I delivered flyers in mailboxes and planted trees and flowers in Snowdon as well as numerous other tasks. I also needed to work at the Eco-quartier Darlington to supplement my income because Eco Snowdon didn’t have enough hours to offer me. I then began working for Prevention CDN/NDG with the Eco-quartier Loyola program. With the knowledge that I had gained from the previous Eco-quartiers and the Prevention CDN/NDG staff, my work began to get a lot easier thanks to the expertise of a solid organization. The Eco-quartier Loyola was traded for the Eco-quartier NDG/Snowdon with the borough and 2 years later we became the Eco-quartier NDG. Some of the tasks that I am involved with at the Eco-quartier are as follows: distributing recycling bins (for NDG apartment buildings, schools, churches, community centres, the borough’s annual flower and compost distribution, composter sales, battery and household hazardous waste collections. For the last 9 Year I have had the opportunity to work with many eco, friendly people and I am very proud of myself and my co-workers. If given the opportunity, I would like very much to continue working under the Prevention CDN/NDG umbrella until I am 93 years old!

Julie Kourakos - Volunteer & greening coordinator Éco-quartier NDG

As the volunteer and greening coordinator for Eco-Quartier NDG, my mandate allows me to focus on recruiting, animating, and working with volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. I coordinate all kinds of activities, from kiosks and special events, door-to-door recycling and composting sensitization, senior gardening programmes, community composting maintenance, fund-raising drives, translation work and graphic design projects. As greening coordinator, I have had the chance to manage the inter-generational gardening program, which links seniors in need with youth volunteers, which have been very rewarding experience! Having studied International Development at the undergraduate level, I have found that working on a local level within the NDG community has really opened my eyes to the important work that can be done here at home when it comes to promoting good environmental habits. 

Sophie Verdon - Environmental animator / Green alley coordinator Éco-quartier NDG

Sophie has had an atypical path to lead her to be the environmental animator at the Éco-quartier NDG. She has many interests, and her willingness to always learn more drives her to explore all aspects of an issue. Holder of an undergraduate degree in International Relations and International Law, she also completed one year of training in elementary and preschool education. She is currently completing a 2nd cycle diploma at Haute Etudes Commercial (HEC) in Management and Sustainable Development. Sophie believes that children are the roots and the future of our society. She therefore loves her animator job, where she can mix her interest in education and the environment, working with schools and sensitizing children to environmental issues, while suggesting concrete alternatives. Sophie is also project manager for the green-alley project in the NDG borough. She has seen first-hand that this kind of project can improve the quality of life for residents, allowing them to reclaim a forgotten space. The green alley has the potential to become a space to exchange between neighbors, a playground for kids as well as a green path to fight against the heat island problems in the city. Sophie believes in small actions -- in little changes that can grow huge as well as local concrete programs such as the Éco-quartier!
